"Oliver meets Anna just a few months after his father Hal passes away from cancer. This infatuation fills Oliver with memories of his father who, at the age, of 75 came out as gay after losing his wife after a long marriage. Hal's new life as a gay man was both dizzying and fantastic, not least when he met a younger lover, but also because the father and son became close to each other for the first time. This has now taken on greater importance due to Oliver's love for Anna. The film is inspired by the life story of Mike Mills' own father.
